But when she stumbles and falls on stage during the ceremony, a beautiful moment turns into chaos: Gemma has been shot, and just like that, she's fighting for her life. Having done a Masters a few years back, graduation, for me, is the pinnacle of all the hard work you’ve put in. It’s their daughter’s graduation and Rachel and Ed Hartley are expecting it to be one of their family’s happiest days. At the cathedral shooting, a mother heard a thud from behind the trumpeters, as if “something heavy, like a large music book,” had been dropped.

The story is told from multiple points of view which allows us to really get to know these vivid, deeply flawed characters. Because everyone in the Adler family is keeping a secret—not just from the outside world, but from each other. Relieved to have her youngest child back in her arms, breathing in the sweet scent of her hair, Gemma thinks the nightmare is over. I really liked the way the story used different perspectives to bring the story together and also the red herrings that the author threw my way with regard to the identity of the shooter. She uses a neat technique of internal monologue for the five major characters - Ed (Dad), Rachel (Mom), Gemma, Matthew (the investigator) and the shooter whose thoughts are written in italic but whose identity is hidden. We follow Rachel and Ed Hartley as they attend their daughter’s university graduation, only to watch in horror as she’s gunned down in front of them. Like all Teresa Driscoll’s books, the writing style is easy to read, fast-paced and with enough description to drop you right into the action. I didn't dislike the book but there were a couple of things that I felt made it less pleasant to read, and it wasn't really the subject or the story. I flew through this book; I think it’s the fastest I’ve read one in a while (the dates don’t do it justice as I started at 23. Summary: A gripping psychological thriller told from the shifting perspectives of several characters.Along the way, they’ll unlock wisdom for those of us navigating our own coupledoms, and for those still seeking their perfect match. Megan Miller is an ordinary woman with a young family — until a shocking discovery shatters her perfect world. A young woman at graduation is shot, and they have to figure out who did it, but everyone has secrets it seems. Bob Johansson has just sold his software company for a small fortune and is looking forward to a life of leisure. The Perfect Family is a bit of a slow burn, with increasingly more dangerous pranks being pulled on the Adler family.
